TIME TO GET MOBILIZED! I-1094 petition drive to repeal I-1639
« on: October 25, 2019, 02:43:59 PM »
I am not one of the founders or members of the group driving this, I  just want to help spread the word.
The primary location and source of information on this initiative has been Facebook #SILENTNOMORE group. I know many here do not have or use it so I wanted to get the info out and spread the word.

Sporting Systems has been instrumental in helping push this thru.
This has been an ongoing process getting the legal framework and pieces in place but the initiative is now approved by WA Sec of State.

Initiative 1094 Repeal 1639 progress update

As you're all aware, the roll out of this grassroots repeal effort has had a few hiccups. This wasn't our rodeo, but we see our fellow Washington citizens struggling and we have stepped in to remedy the situation.

We have taken the steps to set up the Political Action Committee (PAC) #F1639. This is required to be compliant with Washington election law and prevent legal issues for the Initiative organizers. We will not seek individual donations to help cover the cost, as that's a huge administrative headache, this is our gift to the citizens of Washington. Our free online 1639 class was the warm up gift.

We have ordered 20,000 signature sheets, 17"x22", doubled sided as required by Washington law. If its anything other than that size, printed front and back, it will be REJECTED by the Secretary of State's office. The size is difficult and expensive to print.

Printing will be completed through this weekend, its a pretty big order for any print shop on a short lead time. We should be getting these to shops on Monday/Tuesday.

Logistics:

We have 6 primary distribution sites across the state. They will have the sheets by TUESDAY if all goes well. Pay attention to the social feeds and we'll share announces through our social page as well.

North: Skagit Arms, Burlington
Peninsula: Fred Guns, Sequim
Puget Sound: Rehv Arms, Covington
Northeast: Sharpshooters Range, Spokane
Southeast: Talos Tactical, West Richland
Southwest: Sporting Systems

Each location will have petitions to sign, or to pick up copies for you to use, hopefully you will be able to register voters at these locations as well.

Ranges, gunshops, gunclubs, or other groups wanting to distribute signature sheets should pick up sheets at these locations. We will maintain a post of gun shops that have sheets available for distribution or signing. Sheets will not be mailed or shipped, the PDF won't be shared any longer either as too many wrong sized sheets are already in circulation, a tremendous waste of time and energy...as well as lost voters.

Please do not call, email or message these shops about information (its overwhelming), but follow their social feeds for information.

VOTERS:
WA registered voters ONLY.

Do not sign more than one sheet, it will result in both signatures being tossed out.

Signature and voter information MUST be legible.

Completed sheets, return to the distribution points or mail per the instructions on the signature sheets.

Signatures must be on a sheet that meets all of the Washington election laws, for size, content, readability and properly marked (unlike the Yes on 1639 campaign).

Please like and share this post. This is all grassroots effort, the citizens are standing up and fighting back. We need everyone on board to gather 300,000 signatures before December 27th. It won't be easy, but its not that hard either.

Potential signature gathering locations, private locations will require permission from the property owner:
Sporting events
Holiday parties
Gun shows
Grocery stores
Church services
Rallies
Public spaces/Parks/Busy Sidewalks

Be respectful and polite collecting signatures, but please make the effort.

We learned a lot with our NO on 1639 campaign and hope those lessons will help this effort here. Now gear up, get work done and #F1639.

FACEBOOK GROUP #F1639-Repeal 1639 will be the Social page to watch for current information too.

If any of you are able to make a trip to the location in your region and spread them out to the local gun stores, sporting goods, etc that would be great.  I plan to grab a few when I can and get them spread around my group of friends.

I-1639 was able to make it onto the ballot because it was well-funded primarily by anti-gun billionaires and anti-gun organizations.  Almost $5.5 million was contributed to the I-1639 charade with the misleading title of “SAFE SCHOOLS SAFE COMMUNITIES, 2018” ( https://www.pdc.wa.gov/browse/campaign-explorer/committee?filer_id=SAFESS%20194&election_year=2018 ).  According to the NRA-ILA FAQ on I-1639 (https://www.initiative1639.org/faqs/#16- ) “The gun control group behind this initiative spent approximately $3.8 million on signature gathering alone.”  “86% of all contributions were used to pay a firm to obtain signatures to place I-1639 on the ballot. “.

The initiative process is not the grassroots process it was intended to be; it is being abused by well-funded organizations and wealthy people that have specific ideologies they wish to impose on all of us.  For example: Anti-gun, anti-hunting, and anti-trapping ideologies.  The well-funded efforts by these ideological groups and people pay for petition signatures and media propaganda campaigns to further their ideological agendas.

Arizona has taken steps to prevent this abuse by banning pay-per-signature in initiative campaigns.  Washington should ban pay-per-signature in initiative campaigns just as has been successfully done in Arizona.  This keeps anti-gun and anti-hunting organizations and ideological billionaires from abusing the process.

Please read this article and view the bill that the Arizona Governor signed into law in 2017.  In my opinion, any legislator or Governor that opposes such a law is actually supporting the extreme abuses of the Washington State initiative process we have seen multiple times in Washington (i.e. I-1639 and I-594).

“Ducey signs bill banning pay-per-signature”

“FACT SHEET FOR H.B. 2404”

If we don’t fix the root cause of the abuses of the initiative process, we will continue to have anti-gun, anti-hunting, and anti-trapping laws shoved down our throats by well-funded anti-gun, anti-hunting, and anti-trapping zealots.

If this is gonna happen folks need to get forms and collect signatures. Hunting rights post highlights the fact that an active campaign must be made. The passive signature gathering method is too slow and not big enough.

Finally got this signed.  Some young people were collections signatures in front of Sportsman's warehouse in Everett.  Good to see young people getting involved.  They obviously believed in their cause; not like the mindless mob that was paid by out-of-state billionaires to collect signatures for I-1639.

Get out and support the business that are working to get this repealed.

I took my wife into sporting systems to have her sign it. Nice shop, never been in there before. Man did they have a display of nearly every flash suppressor and brake imaginable.

In archery we have something like the way of the superior man. When the archer misses the center of the target, he turns round and seeks for the cause of his failure in himself.

I am not one of the founders or members of the group driving this, I  just want to help spread the word.

And why do you think the vote would be different a second time?

I'm not trying to be a jerk. I just don't see a worthwhile strategy here.

Not sure the result would be different, but the margin might.  I think people in this state tend to default to the Yes vote for most initiatives.  Maybe if it was worded like the Eyeman initiatives with the "repeal this tax" (it does have an associated tax), it could get more votes.

It was 60% last time which is high for a ballot initiative. The typical King/Thurston/Whatcom voter wouldn't even be able to explain what it contained.

I'm not trying to be negative. I just don't think this is going to work and we should be focused on the current gov effort of trying to ban them.
