Deer dilemma--Wa or ID?
« on: November 06, 2019, 10:09:26 AM »
We are BT/Mulie hunters but our daughter just started the Univ. of Idaho and we got her a Idaho WT tag since it is close to the college.  She also drew a Wa Blue Mt East whitetail tag.  Scouted both last weekend.  With only weekends to hunt, and limited public places in Wa, we are almost thinking to focus on Idaho and just forget the draw tag.  Any thoughts from wt hunters on this strategy to get her in on a buck?

have you knocked on any doors? I would think a younger gal hunter would have a good chance at some access.

If you have private ground access in Washington then I would hunt here.  If not then Idaho would be my choice.  Anything now a days is better than Washington.  Especially public access hunting.

Can she skip out to the woods some morning or afternoon during the week, especially as the rut heats up?  From Moscow, she can be in the ID deer woods pretty quickly...

We hunted that tag a couple years ago.  If you don’t have private lined up I would absolutely focus on ID.

Without private access in WA I would go for the Idaho hunt.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

:yeah: the university allows hunting on the experimental forest for students(free permit) and Bennett land is close by too (free permit from mill). Drive a little farther and tons of PotlatchDeltic ground.

Thanks for the pointers--we were actually leaning toward focusing on Idaho, and were looking at some of the wdfw land access private properties.  When we scouted wa public land we saw lots of mulies and just one wt.
