Snake River steelhead

I've always wanted to go after steelhead. Was given the opportunity to go through work. Not sure who the guide is but will be fishing with 3 other people for 8 hrs this Friday. Excited to go as I've never been on any kind of a guided trip. Anyone fish for them this time of year? Just curious what I should expect. Staying in lewiston.

This is the time of year when the steelheading can really pick-up.
From Sept. thru April are pretty good times to be out there. Usually the hardcore are hard at it during this time.
Dress for the conditions and it should be a blast.
Pretty country, you might see some Mt. Goats, Muleys, Elk, Turkey, Spotted Skunks and maybe even Wolves.

Used to take an annual trip with my old employer every year in late Nov. Fishing the Snake is a blast especially if you are with a seasoned Snake fisherman. Definitely dress for the weather. One year we had to thaw everything in the boat everyday it was so cold. Have fun the scenery is awesome. Make sure you go up canyon.

There is some awesome scenery on that river. Keep an eye on the banks, there are some nice mulie bucks in some spots as well as a chance to see some rams.

fishing is good at Heller bar right now, guide boats are 10-15 a day which is no comparison to years back where 10-15 a person was the norm

15 degrees and snowing steelheading or 115 degrees and hot bass fishing, the snake is a blast any time of year. Hopefully the trip will get you hooked on the snake and make you want to head back for more action!

The trip was an absolute blast! Weather was unreal for december. 50 degrees plus not a rain drop all day, only bad part was the wind. Our guide did a great job finding calm spots so we could keep fishing. The boat landed 19 steelhead 13 wild and 6 hatchery. Biggest fish was probably 7 or 8 pounds. I was able to land 2 fish. Drift fishing with 5 other people can be challenging. Lots of snags and crossing of lines. After we limited on steelhead someone mentioned sturgeon. It was already getting late in the day but the guide said there was one good hole before the launch. They took the guts out of a steelhead and dropped the bait into the water. We pulled up on the beach and 3 mins later sturgeon on! There was a bunch of ewes up on some cliffs with two Rams that looked like they just swam the river to get to them. Few mule deer no elk. I don't know who the guide service was but the boat was sponsored by the diamond shop. The guides names were James and Jayce they did an awesome job!
