V-Bar Chains - I have the answers now. Thanks!
« on: January 12, 2020, 01:39:29 PM »
I have two sets of V-Bar chains and had bought them for P245 70 R16. My new truck's tires are P265 70 R16 - about a 3" circumference difference. First off would these fit anyway without doing anything? And if not, is there a way to extend them? Has anyone done this? Thanks for your help,
PMan

Yes you can extend them with the proper tools.

I've used chunks of good chain and cold links.  :twocents:

Go online and buy some used chains to lengthen yours.

 :yeah: :yeah: :yeah: :yeah:

All good advise.  Never sell a good set of chains.....you can always modify them or use them to modify others as vehicles come and go.

I've done this successfully.

Just bought some chain and cold links.
Being paranoid, I did weld the cold links when I was done.

They work fine.

Here it is.

I just spoke to a friend who specializes in tires. He told me much of what you guys are advising. First, they may already fit. Second, welding a couple of links, if they don't. He also gave me a great tip which is to spray paint the attachment link once I've put them on the truck so you don't have to muck around if you need to put them on out in the snow and ice.

Thanks for all your help guys. I think I'm good on this.
