Calling all reloaders
« on: January 20, 2020, 12:51:20 PM »
Looking for someone who can make a batch of 222 rem mag ammo. Anyone have the equipment and know how. It's a gift for a friend. PM me if you can help or point the right direction.

I wouldn't trust anyone that doesn't have a license as an ammo manufacturer. There's guys on here plenty of capable of throwing some together, but it's a huge liablitiy to answer a strangers request to make them ammo on an internet forum.

I will load for only a few people and they are family. For your request, for a friends gift I would look online where you can order loaded ammo.

As a guy who does an endless amount of reloading for other people, I'd echo what leo said. I'd also add that I'd never load a recipe that wasn't one that I personally worked up or that someone I trust had worked up  :twocents:

Agreed.

If I were to load ammo for somebody I didn't know, and didn't have access to the rifle to work the load up in.....the guy would only be getting minimum book starting loads...…   Which you're better off buying factory ammo.   And for the higher prices of a custom loading, might as well just buy the Nosler factory ammo currently sitting in stock at Midway.....

For a gift you could get some factory loads. Some pretty good ones.

I've done it once, the person purchased the dies, brass, primers, bullets and powder. And gave me the recipe for the specific load he wanted for a 7mm STW, it came out for both of us. Shooting a steel match someone with a 38 special shot someone's hand loads without a clue who had done it, ended up with a chunk of lead in the barrel. So just buy a good box or two of the shelf. :twocents:

Well I went to cabelas and they didnt have any on the shelf I see some online but I always thought reloading was cheaper maybe I was wrong in that. I was hoping to save money and not going to say for sure but it could most likely be arranged to meet somewhere to test rounds to get it right if that was needed. I do understand the red tape around it and would not just buy from anyone I would want somone who knows this load specifically and hopefully test a few with said person there getting things dialed in. It will not be used often so 100 rounds should last a very very long time. But 160 from midway seemed like maybe there could be a better deal and I know reloading can yield better ammo and I thought cheaper. I guess if there is no one specialized in this round though it's a bust anyway.

Likely far fewer folks loading this round. Cheaper...well maybe once you are done buying all the equipment.  Actually,  once you count your time it sure isn't.  For the round count you are talking you are best off buying quality stuff online or locally.

Hand loads are very specific to each individual gun. I could slap together some loads that would be safe to fire in any weapon but no guarantee they would actually be accurate. To make an accurate load you I would have to have some time with the weapon.

As for being less expensive, by the time you bought powder, primers, 100pcs of brass, dies, bullets, and an ammo box you are gonna be into it pretty close to $160. Reloading eventually pays off but initial setup is quite costly :twocents:

I always say you never save money reloading.  You just shoot more

I have reloaded ammo for a few friends and family .But I'm very limited to who I might reload. And when I have its at min charge to the reloading book .So your not getting anything special.

Academy Sports has Federal V-Max for $19+ a box of fifty, that would be the rout I would take.
