Moyle Mink and Tannery

On 1/09/20 I sent two wolf pelts to Moyle mink to be tanned. Twenty days later, on 1/29/20 the finished wolf pelts arrived back to me. This turn around time is even more impressive when you think that the wolves were traveling 4 of those 20 days. The finished pelts are beautiful. I was concerned that one pelt had blue leather, I thought it would be easy to shave the leather too much and cut hair roots. But they did a great job.
I still tell people how two seasons ago I got eight cats back from Moyle mink in seven weeks. I guess they've set a new record now.

Black tail sniper: Ill try in a couple days, tryin to get through a heap of coyotes right now.
Hump tulips: I requested 40 day service, which as your aware comes with a 50% surcharge. When the confirmation came it did not mention, or charge for the express service. Course I called to complain that they wernt charging me enough. "M" informed me that their turnaround time on wolves was under 40 days at present so express was not necessary. I thought Ill beleive it when I see it. Well she was right by a long shot.
I sent them a batch of Marten and cats on 1/22, so am curios how they do. I did send these in before the Western fur auctions started going off, so dont know if that helps.

I have been happy with their work except civet cats. They are really rough on them and they punch your initials  in the back by the tail. That really damages such a small animal with thin skin. Any damage that disrupts the color pattern on them is doubly bad.

those look great! i just got my furs back from last year, beaver, otter, muskrats. all turned out really well. i cant complain about the quality or service

I've used Moyle Mink for years, they are great! never had any bad experiences. Lets just say even on some iffy stuff I sent them they made me look good.

One of the best deals going is getting a black bear tanned, they have done two for me. When you think about the cost of having a bear rugged out at 140.00 a running foot for a 6ft bear = 840.00. Having Moyle just tan one taxidermy grade for 190.00 is a deal. If you ever wanted to get it done out you could. One is over the back of a couch and the other over a half wall. I would really have to think about having another one rugged out, it would have to be bigger than the one on the wall, different color phase or the like. These days my wife is of the mind of if it is not a big bear, leave the hide in the woods and just bring the meat home. Also, shoot the first one you see, if you want a bigger bear  go get your second tag.

Yes, every fur hide I have sent to Moyle has come back beautiful. 

I wish they would also do hair-off tanning of deer and elk hides. and plucked and sheared for beaver, nutria, or otter.  I sent some nutria and an otter one year for plucked and sheared to USAFoxx.  They came back all beautiful like soft velvet.  The next year I sent them a couple nutria for tanning and shearing and they look unevenly sheared and rough. The leather sides are rough, too.  I was glad I hadn't sent them any otter.    If they didn't have someone who knows how to do it, they should tell the customer.  I wouldn't have minded if they practiced on the nutria and didn't charge me extra for the tan.

Moyle is the best for fur tanning.

What type of prep do you do for a bear before sending it in? I have one in the freezer and think getting it tanned would be a good route to go.

I sent a small bear in this fall and got it back recently. It turned out great.
What did I do for prep?
I fleshed it, removed cartilage from ears, removed foot pads. You could leave the pads on but they need to be fleshed and that is a pain. I left the toe pads on and they are hard when done.
After fleshing I tacked it out on a sheet of plywood and dried it. Folded it up and shipped it.
