Bear fat

I know it's early to mention.. But I'm always happy to take unwanted bear fat.. I use it to make soap.

Render some down and save it for baking......makes the best biscuts and pie crust ever.

My grandma swore by it for making donuts also, but I love it for making soap.. first year I tried it, from a couple local folks giving me theirs to render, and it turned out beautiful!  I only mention it because I think many people now do not bother with rendering fat, and of course I only want it if you have no plans for it ☺️

I can't wait to hammer a huge fall bear late in the season to have fat to render.  To date my only big bear has been a spring bear and there was not enough fat to bother with.  The other bears have been early fall, small and fairly lean.   :bash: :bash:  I have a couple on trail cam that fit the bill....just need to see them in the daylight hours.  Most the huge fat fall bears appear to be nocturnal.   :dunno:

I'm glad to hear so many hunters are still rendering and using the fat.. I got a small amount from a gal who got one local, and didn't use it at all, and a local 15 year old boy who got a really nice fat sow.. they use theirs for biscuits and pie crust, but gave me part in trade for soap, and home canned little wild blackberry jam, and apple pie filling... Growing up my grandma rendered it for donuts, and my Dad kept a coffee can of it for his boots.

My taxidermist over here calls me when he has fresh fat and most goes to soap, but some is for food.

That's great your taxidermist does that for you! I need to meet a taxidermist I guess! 🙄 Last Summer I just put it local on our community Facebook page and got the two.. I missed a shot at a fairly small black bear this Fall... So disappointing..
