I'm going to miss it this year.  Darn, I sort of miss the chaos, the indians netting etc.  Sure can be some hot fish though.

I have to drive to Hoodsport almost every day for work.  The tribes are knocking the crap out of them right now. I had to stop at Tacoma Power's Saltwater park (the boat ramp across the street from the powerhouse) yesterday to take a leak and one indian told me that he had caught close to five hundred chums over the past couple of days.  I wanted to ask if he cut the roe out and tossed the carcasses back in, but I was in a company rig and didn't think that is was a good idea.

Its been years since I have gone to that madhouse. When you could fish at night was awsome, there were nights when there would only be 5 guys there.

Dont get it twisted, I go everywhere with my boat. Why not have some fun at times though? Hoodsport is 1.5 hours from home and 30 fish a day is common. We catch and release all but the brightest hens, keeping only those that will give us good steelhead eggs. Catching that many fish in a day will give you Popey forarms, it really is a lot of fun....................rf

You want excitement, try it in your float tube.  Ever try to land a chum on your flyrod in a float tube?

I guess i've been ruined on chums living 10 minutes from the sky. we have 20 fish flyrod days up there all the time. they're a blast to catch, probably about as fun as it gets.

Used to do that very thing in the early 90s when I lived on the West side.  Total combat fishery but I had some tremendous days out there.  The best thing was to was to use the tube to get out to the little bars out in front and then you can stand up when the tide was right.  I'll can say 1 thing... a bright Chum in salt on an 8 weight is a load.  Heck, I even saw a guy break a 9' 9wt Loomis on the Skagit 1 time.  Sounded like a rifle shot when that thing broke.

Yep, broke a 9 weight sage on the Satsop one morning.  It was my 26th fish (fair) and he headed downstreama dn was so violent it snapped.  Problem was, it was a borrowed $800 flyrod.  What I didn't know was that it was guaranteed for life.

I wouldn't pick up an $800 rod out of fear I would break it.

I have done the float tube thing at hoodsport, its fun. I have a suggestion for anyone thinking about it, ----bring an anchor. The first time it felt like I climmed Ranier fighting the tide for a couple of hours.

That is the only place I have ever broke a 100 in a day (or even come close).

Those people are fantastic. I own several Sage rods, fly, bait casting and spinning. I broke the end off of an 796 RPL in the door of the truck several years ago and took the ferry to the island to show them. Obviously the warranty doesn't cover this type of damage but they gave me a tour of the whole place, showed me how the rods were made and then told me they where going to get me a new top section, which they did. Absolutely awesome customer service..................rf
