Guess the score
« on: March 30, 2020, 12:18:02 PM »
While I am "essential" my work is ~50% and I am bored. I'm gonna work on scoring some horns in the evening since I cant get out and pick up new ones for fun. The beers from last night, Im not day drinking (yet).

Would be interested to hear guesses on scores for this set.

Great bull, 376"

Looks like a brute, but no way does it go 376.

I'll say 375 6/8.

Some guys who are skilled in this field are going to want a spread credit to use for the scoring.

368 4/8"

Heck of a bull.

I rounded up  :chuckle:

My first gut was 372, then I thought 375 and then thought 375 and some change, 376".

Spread credit is a variable and I am talking gross, nets are for fish.

For some reason I thought all shed spread credit given was 40” no matter how big they are, I’m probably wrong on that

Buckhunter24, Why cant you get out and hunt for more.  Shed hunting in the mountains by yourself would be a great Corona virus activity.  Just don't get within 6 feet of other shed hunters and you should be fine.

I agree with this but will be a little more specific at 338. Just a guess though.

Are those actual measurements?

I had the 2's, 4's  and 5's longer.

Thanks for doing this.

This is a method I created for real quick field judging of gross score that I've found to be accurate enough on the fly.  In this particular case it was very accurate.  The Ryan method:

*Assume that for each 6x6 bull with average length, spread, and mass, he will score 300.
*Add each eligible tine's inches in excess of 10" and subtract each tine's inches that are less than 10", i.e. if a tine is only 9", then subtract 1" because it is less than 10".
*Add just those excess inches plus 300.
*Using that method, this bull's right antler has 21 4/8" of excess and the left has 27 2/8" of excess for a total of 48 6/8"; add the 300" and you get 348 6/8" of bone.  Pretty close for only adding the inches in excess of 10" on each tine.

When done quickly in the field, don't worry about partial inches and if you only see one side, double the inches in excess of 10" and add 300 to get a rough score (you certainly get a better score, if you can count both sides).  Its fast because you are only counting inches in excess of 10 and the math is easier to do in your head.

This method won't account for excess spread or mass. If you add the inches in excess of 10 on the G6, then it will compensate for excess length.

Damn I knew better, I over shot it. I added 5” just because all the guesses before me were so much higher.

They are measurements, i did have a 2 toddlers crawling around with them while I was measuring though   :chuckle:

The g4 measurement compared to the g3 measurement threw me off, the g3 kind of curls whereas the g4 is straight as an arrow I guess that changes the perspective some.
