Bearpaw Season - Spring 2020

Got set up close to a roost this morning, on some sloping ground, there were 9 toms here last night so we were pretty pumped. Pretty soon the first Tom started gobbling, oh yeah! 5 minutes later the hens started going off. We had to sit in fairly open spot to get a good view of where I thought the birds would come down. Two hens come off but sailed way out into the field behind us, next a hen landed 70 yards in front of us, suddenly one of the toms landed 25 yards right in front of us.

We waited, Hoping another Tom would land, but the Tom was slowly strutting his way towards the hen away from us, finally we decided to take the Tom before he got too far out, whammo, big Tom down.

The other birds went out into the field, there is another big Tom with them so we are waiting to see if we might get another chance.

I almost forgot the best part of the story, when he shot he went over backwards in the chair, the ground had a little too much slope! I told Jerry I sure wished I had a video of that, he said he didn’t need one, he’ll never forget that!

It was a short, swift, but very successful turkey season, I missed posting a few birds that I didn't get photos of, and we had a lot of cancellations but I feel blessed that we had a good half season.

This bird finishes off the turkey season for us, our last two hunters passed a bunch of jakes, sacked up three long beards in two days, and headed for home, thanks guys, hope to see you next year!

Nice bird!  Glad you at least got a few guys in for the season Dale!  Hoping this fall will be better.....for all of us!

Yeah, I'm just trying to pay the bills and keep the guides employed so I don't lose any of them. I think we'll have a good fall season, hunters are booking hunts again. We've actually used the time down to finish some projects and start others. I started a shop a few years ago, we got the roof on it and filled it up, we never seemed to have time to get it completely finished and reorganize everything, nice to have it actually completed now.

I've been hearing some ugly rumors of all types of businesses that probably aren't going to reopen, I really feel bad for people who had thriving businesses that were suddenly destroyed so quickly and even longtime businesses that are in danger of failing. For every business that fails numerous employees are left jobless too, sure hope this can all turn around soon for everyone's benefit!

Robert went to the Bearpaw candy strore and got himself a sweet chocolate bear! Nice going Robert, congrats!

Ian nailed another nice chocolate boar with guide Daniel, good job Ian! 
Ian's father killed another black boar the next day and they headed home, I'm still waiting on photos of Charles' bear but will post when I get them.

David nailed a nice chocolate bear to go with the black one he killed last year with us. Good going David!
