So these oyster mushrooms are edible? The only mushroom hunting I’ve ever done has been for morels.

Yep. They sell cultivated oyster mushrooms at fancy grocery stores and farmer's markets. They are one of the safest wild mushrooms because nothing else grows quite like they do.

Went out Oyster hunting  with my three littles today.  First time for all four of us.  We got a fair amount, two or three gallons I think. We frequently go out for Morels, deer, or elk and come back empty handed, so it was nice to experience some success with the kids.

Check post #24 of this thread... That's how I do. But whatever you do with a grocery store mushroom (agaricus bisporus) will work. They might need a little more time on the heat based on how soggy they got on the log.

Right on! Nothing better than seeing kids satisfied with a day in the woods. How was dinner?

I would really like to see a dedicated mushroom thread. One where people can post pictures of shrooms they find and can have help identifying them. I find all kids out in the world that I would love to know if they are edible. So, in closing.... Can we get a dedicated mushroom thread? @Bearpaw @Jakelope @Woodchuck @bobcat @lokidog  :EAT:

Great idea! My go to for timely help on identification is https://www.reddit.com/r/mycology

The best app for your phone is iNaturalist, and you can use that for anything you find in nature... Mushroom, plant, or animal. Just used it with my kids the other day to identify what kind of dead heron skeleton we stumbled across.

Most mushrooms you find are NOT edible or are unknown. Many of the edible ones are not tasty enough to bother. Makes it easy when your just looking for a handful of species that you can really lock onto every detail of 👍

Nice! I was rooting for ya! Did your kids like em? I started them off on pizzas and omelettes. Now they'll eat a pile of them on the side with dinner, especially my pickiest eater! I couldn't believe that one...
