So when it comes to mushrooms, the mushrooms decide when opening day is... Yesterday, they decided!

If anyone is interested in walking in the woods and still getting to hunt for something. They grow on Alder dead fall around here. Or if a tree is dead but still standing. Often clumped up. The gills are decurrent, which means they run down the stem. There really isn't anything else that looks much like them around here at this time of the year. But of course do your own research and don't just trust randoms on the internet! Cheers!

Interesting timing.  Our spring flush ended a couple weeks ago outside Issaquah.  Good find and good eats.  Easy and safe to ID.

Well I found all these in Seattle. It was so dry for awhile it probably seemed like it ended, but it all depends on conditions. I'll bet if you go checked your logs again youd be in for a treat! In Puget sound I've found them in almost every month of the year except Dec /Jan. The log in my backyard near Gig Harbor is on its 3rd flush of the year so far! The first two seemed like a warmup to this week. They should all be popping big time now that it finally rained again. Woop woop! Happy hunting

Just went and checked my yard again... Things are just getting started folks. All those little white spots are gonna be breakfast in a few days!

I happened to see this thread right before I went on a walk with my kids and found a few! Going to keep checking that spot!

I have yet to figure out what makes a log produce and what doesn't? All my spots have quite a bit of dead Alder laying around yet it's only a select few that fruit the fungus... I have noticed the fresh cut/fallen stuff doesn't seem that great. It seems to take at least a year, but this is purely anecdotal. They seem to like creeks and swamps with skunk cabbage. I end up bushwhacking a lot, and I've been bringing binoculars out on the trail. There is this one log on my property that is about to go bonkers though! And it's right next to a creek.
