Just helped a buddy go through the process yesterday after printing tags I called wdfw out of curiosity and the gal assured me that as soon as they got back to a more normal work situation that they would start printing and mailing all licenses and tags that were bought during this time frame at no additional charge she wasn’t sure when but was thinking by June should have originals in hand

Just saved mine to a PDF file on my phone, downloaded an app to let me print from my phone and printed. Guess I could print all I wanted at this point. Black and White on plain paper, not sure how you'd attach to an animal and sure it wouldn't last long if you did. I'm sure they'll have a regular replacement tag at some point as obviously I could print out as many of these as I wanted and just keep shooting until actually checked and I suppose have the kill on record. I'm no tech wizard so saving and printing is not hard

This is a fine time to bring up paperless tags. No reason that in the year 2020 we can't punch tags on a phone app.  Have paper tags for those who want them but I'd sure love to have it all mobile and save me a quart ziplock bag of space in my pack with half a dozen freaking plastic envelopes of licenses :twocents:

I just got a reply from WDFW.

Thank you for contacting the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife.

The e-mail allows you the opportunity to print your temporary licenses in place of the permanent ones we will send you. You do not have to print them but it is offered in case anyone has a fishing license of small game license they can use once everything opens. These are fine to be printed in grayscale and, as I said, they are temporary. You will receive official tags and your license in the mail.

The dealer fee is not a fee to mail you the tags. It is a fee collected by the dealer for processing the purchase. If you go to any in-person dealer, they are going to charge you the same fee.

Thank You,

So it sounds like they will be mailing everyone real tags once they open back up. Totally dodged my complaint about charging a fee, and then not providing a tag. But sounds like that's a non issue if they are going to be mailing tags latter. I had said in my e-mail that if I would have known about the printing I would have went to a dealer and have gotten a real tag and lic. That they where charging a fee on there site and then not providing the tag.  I guess there view is it's a fee to charge you a fee.... and not to actually do or provide anything more than charge you. I always viewed it as a fee to provide a service (aka provide me with some kinda lic or tag... silly me for thinking that).

The dealer fee charged online is pretty much only because they don't want to be cheaper than the dealers and take away business from them.

Bimart or cabelas is gonna charge you the same exact fee for the same exact license. When wdfw goes back to their office and mails out your tags and licenses. Theres no additional fees.

Every single state charges a processing/transaction fee. It's not new and it's not out of the norm

I get that. My point is, if they charge a fee they should provide a tag or lic (a dealer does).

Well yes, and it sounds like they are. Just a little delayed due to everything being shut down. I do appreciate your post though, as I was about ready to buy mine online, but instead drove over to the license dealer and purchased there.

Let’s be careful what we wish for.  It’s a move for WA to allow this, we can always go in and get a printed copy.  Print it, take a pic, whatever you need to do.

I’m no fan of many WDFW things, but this is helpful.

I bought all my stuff awhile ago. I didn't declare for deer and elk yet so no tags for those. But they only sent my license. No Cougar or bear tag.
