Ok, opinions on this ones size? I’ve yet to shoot a bear and watched it walk to about 20 yards of me and turn broadside but it didn’t look very big and it was opening day of the high hunt..
Not a giant, but not a cub. The only person who's opinion matters is your own. It didn't look big enough to you so you didn't shoot. I think you made the right choice.

Hello everyone, I’m new to hunting and this year is my first. I have had someone taking me out a few times to show me the ropes but he is not from here and mostly hunts eastern Washington. I live in 407 and have been focusing on here and 418 throughout the season. Here’s the question I was in 418 following up on a Bear I saw a month ago. We were in the National Forest wilderness at 3200 feet. Light snow on the ground. There were some light tracks on the ground in places but no trails were detectable. All the vegetation was either dead or lying down so visibility was great but no good indicators of bear trails. I guess the ultimate questions I have are
-Is it too late to hunt bear, have they gone into hibernation already?
-Should I stick to lower elevations where it’s warmer and no snow?
- Would Eastern Washington be better this late in the game or worse?

With general MF deer over I'm going to try and thump the bear that's been running around between now and late deer. Found a pile of pooh bigger than my boot this last Saturday.
