Today started out good, nice weather! Then went to crap, rain, wind and then fog.  Watched this bear for a few hours, got to within 650 ish yards but recovery would have been very bad.

We had one great opportunity on a bear, it should be in the cooler, the new kid I’m with missed.  He was heart broken, tried to convince him it happens to most new hunters, I’ve missed a few for sure in my early days, you just get too jacked up.  I saw the same bear the next day and I was ichin to pull the trigger, took a 700 yard shot, and clean miss.  We saw lots of bears in a week, most just too far away, or in places you’d really need climbing gear.  The weather kinda screwed us for half the time, cold, some rain, fog one day.  Last night a storm blew in and about pulled my steaks out, but the wall tent held tight. One last day today, taking it easy, just road hunt on the quads and glass hillsides.  I hear the bears don’t care for the rain and cooler temps so not expecting much.  Great trip all in all, most likely come back for a quick weekend towards the end of June.

The turkeys are few, only heard one gobbler in the early part of the season.  My draw partner went back and shot a bear, put it down and it got up and ran off. 5 hours later he had to give up looking when he needed climbing gear.  I decided to head back next Wednesday after work, going in deep this time. I have a feeling the hides will start going to crap now so at least if I kill one farther in I most likely won’t be packing the hide out; head and meat!

Depending on where you are in the state, they hides are still very nice.  The NE corner has been colder than usual and all the bear I have seen as of last week still look very nice.  I feel like the colder temps and rain in the NE are unusual for this time of year.  The grass in my area is literally 3 feet tall and growing...

Headed north for my last weekend of hunting in a few hours. Can’t wait.

Good luck to you.  I will be coming over tomorrow.  I have passed on 4-5 bears so far....not sure that will be the case as the month progresses.

Good luck guys!!!  I’m excited, heading in about 3 miles to a ridge I’ve never been to.

Big bear down!!!!  Shot him at 5:30 this morning, 384 yards. I’m 2 miles down a big ridge, 400 yards down a very steep ridge.  By myself, way too much work to go on w story. Try to load pics later, at least 3 packs out to truck before my day is done.
