Barrel vise
« on: May 28, 2020, 09:33:55 AM »
Anyone on here close to Moses Lake have a barrel vise?   I want to get my one barrel rethroated and can't find my vise.  I have the action wrench for my BAT.  I have to ship the barrel to the gunsmith and don't want to ship the serialized action.  My vise got misplaced in a move.

So, anyone close to Moses Lake.  Barrel is a heavy barrel.

If not found Put couple wood blocks together, bore hole between em, clamp in vise ?   See jasnts bench pic of his clamped with bolts and bar stock.

I have this mounted to a piece of heavy angle so it can be put in a vise or stored under the bench when not in use......never had a slip.

I tried reaming a 7/8 inch hole thru two blocks of 2x4.  Barrel diameter is roughly .900 at the grip point.   It kept spinning in the wood even when I added a toilet paper roll.  Dang..

Of the wooden variety, I think its mostly oak or other hard wood used successfully.

Not to be critical...  but that bench is waaaayyy to clean!

I have a barrel vice with oak blocks.  i put powdered sugar on the wood where it makes contact with the barrel to keep the barrel from spinning.  It works great for me.
