Rayonier hunting permits

Has anyone checked out the Rayonier hunting permits for this year? The greed has really set in now. $2,000 to $4,000 starting bids in the Salmon Creek area...... for elk season.  The muzzleloader permits start at $2,000.

I saw that. But it's not new. It's been in the neighborhood of that same price for a few years now, I believe. Hard to believe people pay that much.

What are their areas like?
Do you have to bid on certain areas?
Anyone have any experience with these areas? And getting the leases good or bad?

Fairly simple, if you don’t want to, don’t...  if they manage it right, to kill 280”-300” Rosie bulls, it would be a gold mine...

I made a thread about the Rayonier permits last year when I had an MS elk tag. I did not end up going this route but was informed to be conscious of logging operations in the areas I intended to hunt. All the activity can effect the elk in the area and truck traffic can effect access on the roads.

I saw that the start for bids was $1,800 and the first for archery went for $2,400.  The deer permits for Salmon Creek I think are going for $600.
They've been having so much traffic on their site, it has had to shut down and reopen a few days later.

It was fun and served us well. It was at the very end of our progression of options. Elk hunting is over for us now. I think the best (Screaming Deal) access permit in their Salmon Creek area is for the Muzzleloader seasons. The combination elk and deer permits went off the charts this year.

I've gotten the fossil creek permit for 5 years back to back and it was worth it.

They make no money permits compared to what they make on trees

If anyone would look at this, there is a 'cap" on what income per acres these companies can charge and the land still be considered primarily for growing and harvesting of trees.  The cap is 10% of taxable value per acres.  To be classified as timberland, 90% of income must come from trees.  So, if the county has a forestland value of $300 per acre, no more than $30 per acre per year can come from activities OTHER than tree farming.  Right no they are operating at about $1-3 per acre per year so there is still a ways to go.  Down south, they lease revenue tops the logging revenue.

Most of the tree money is every 40 years. The hunting money is annual.
