idaho deer/wolf hunt
« on: June 04, 2020, 03:06:03 PM »
so my dad and i will be deer hunting late november this year in the pan handle. we each picked up a wolf tag as well. i kind of hope we dont run into wolves as it will throw the deer hunting off but if we do, looking for suggestions on how to go about it. ive been reading what i can find and watching youtube vids of guys in idaho, just looking for any and all info i can to better our chances if we do have the opportunity come up. also, since i have a trap license in wa, does that transfer over to idaho? if it does, maybe ill run a short line while deer hunting and hope to get lucky. thanks for any and all responses. much appreciated.

You have to take Idaho wolf trapping class so I wouldn’t lay a trap line  down. Mostly I have bumped into wolves randomly but did call one pack in. Howling and then a dying rabbit. I think too many people are randomly howling with e callers now and it’s been less effective but at least you can locate that way. In November you should have snow and find tracks I would walk those as far as I could till I felt I was close and call.

Ok great. Thanks for the info! Maybe I’ll look into their site and see if I can get into a trapping course over the summer. Short drive for me. Would be well worth it for future anyhow.

The walk in on tracks close and call is kind of what I’ve watched and read so far. Good advice. Thank you. I’ll keep it in mind.

Anyone seen a calf moose in distress call? The videos/YouTube guys seem to do really well once close using that calf moose call.
