Alkali......Any Alkali success pics?
« on: June 10, 2020, 05:08:48 PM »
My questions are about getting registered, should I just show up or call to make an appointment? Only access point is from the base, where you have to sign in daily correct? And obviously any tips or pointers will be welcomed....Thanks and Happy Hunting!!

Just show up.  DO NOT take a weapon with you. Write down all pertinent info on weapons you want to register, as well as a current drivers license, proof of vehicle insurance and valid vehicle registration.

They will check you in at the gate, then you will go up to CPT Aaron Blanchard Gymnasium to pay for your recreation card. Once you've done that swing down to the MP station and do your weapon registration. Good to go after that. You'll need all that every time you go on base.

Call the hotline before you go, it’s been closed to the public since March.

Drew a cow tag in the unit and have never hunted it before.  Just to clarify, are you saying that the first time you go there to register you should not have any actual firearms in your vehicle?  Just trying to avoid driving over there to register and getting booted off the base. I've done alot of work on military bases across the country and know that they don't mess around with their protocols.

Correct. They will turn you back at the gate. Just write down all your weapon info and take that with you so you can do your registration with the MP's. Then next time you'll be good to go. Make, model, caliber, barrel length, etc.

I really hope this covid crap blows over enough to get you guys out hunting. Be pretty crappy if it stays locked down through fall.

Thanks for the clarification on that.  I hope we will be able to access it also as it seems several members have drawn tags in there.

You will need a passport or an enhanced drivers license to access the base. The requirement has been on and off the last couple years. Best to come prepared.

that's a good point Bob. As of this winter they were still not requiring it but it's for sure coming or has already been implemented. Haven't been out there since december so couldn't speak to current requiremnts

Doesn’t look like the base is going to open for sometime for recreation and could not get a solid answer of when.

Even under normal conditions what areas are open can change daily, and what is open the next day isn't made available until later in the afternoon. That's part of the challenge: you might scout an area but when you want to hunt there it could be closed.
