roosevelt walleye
« on: June 17, 2020, 07:02:10 AM »
my family is going on a houseboat in the end of june, we are launching out of seven bays and will go both directions for a day or so.  i have a "family fun" boat, open bow, I/O engine,  so im not setup for trolling or "legit" fishing setup. wondering about jigging for walley in the general area, wont be able to spend all day fishing but definitely would like to sneak away in the morning for a short bit or fish through out the day between playing with the family. do i stand a chance to catch anything, also will have kids with me like age 5-7  any chance of them catching anything  should i do the ole worm and powerbait or jigs and nightcrawler etc.? tips please

You should catch fish just jogging, don't overlook the smallmouth also.

You should be able to find some weed lines in the 10' range and cast plastic swimbaits to the edges. Slow steady retrieve and occasional pause.  Also find flats that have a steep drop on the channel side and there will be Walleye hanging around the edges, vertical jig a plastic grub tipped with a small piece of worm.

The lake is loaded with lots of small walleyes plus a few worth keeping if you sort through 15 or 20 to the boat. Right now if you drag jigs on any flat in the 20-35 foot area or find a break and fish it in that same depth you should catch walleye and SMB in the 7 Bays area. My favorite grub color is STP green with red or gold metalflake but most any color will catch fish if topped with 1/2 a crawler. Have fun
