Lots of people sitting on unused vacation and stimulus checks this year. Not surprised to see them go fast after people saw they didn't draw in WA. I got my tag but had a few buddies miss out.

In August all the unsold outfitter tags go on sale

Those can only be purchased as second tags. Unless there is something new I'm missing.

Those types of posts you mention always intrigue me, there's not a lot of critical thinking occurring because non-resident tags have been capped for many years, there will no more non-residents hunters this year than there was 5 or 10 years ago! The truth of the matter is that there are more resident hunters as more and more people move to Idaho. The only real way to limit the number of hunters in Idaho is to cap resident tags!

Don't shoot me, I'm only providing commonly available information!

Just got a note from IDF&G.  There are NR deer tags still to be had but they expect them to sell out NLT 1 August.  For those who couldn't get an elk tag, there are still venison steaks on the hoof tags to be had  :)

From IDF&G:
Nonresidents: Buy your deer tags soon!
Projected sell out date is Aug. 1 for deer
Nonresident elk tags sold out on June 17, and Fish and Game projections based on current sales rates show nonresident 2020 deer tags (including white-tailed deer tags) could sell out by August 1. Actual sell-out date could be sooner if sales increase, which occurred with nonresident elk tags. Elk tags sold out about two weeks earlier than projected.

And that is another part of the problem.....

Everyone is shooting the spikes and 2 point bucks!!!!!!

Just a matter of time until Idaho pumps the breaks on tag sales and truth be told it's gonna be too late..

I agree with most of this but there could be more non resident hunters there this year than in years past.

The reasoning... resident hunters didn’t get to purchase a second elk tag at non resident prices since they sold out prior.  So if everyone goes there could be more non residents there this year than last because zero have been purchased by the residents.

no if ands or buts about it there will be more NR hunters this year and like thousands more. Normally there are several thousand tags leftover for NR and residents to buy as second tags. Those weren't additional hunters in the field they were just guys with 2 tags.

I understand that scenario but it's relevent only to the last several years, when the quota first was created you could not buy a second tag, only one tag could be purchased, It was after the banking crisis and wolf invasion that second tags were allowed in order to sell out the non-resident tags that were not selling.

We really are only building back up to normal tag sales levels like we had back in the earlier 2000's before the banking crisis and wolf invasion. True that for the last several years as more residents purchased NR tags the number of NR hunters actually dipped, but the only increase in actual hunter numbers as compared to before the banking crisis will be more resident hunters, the number of residents is increasing, but the NR tag numbers I'm pretty sure are still exactly the same! One possible exception is that the special whitetail tags might be in addition to the historic NR quota.

The state of Idaho is doing a stellar job of marketing their tags.

How long has it been since they sold out on all non res archery elk tags??  I don't remember this happening before, it was going to be an automatic tag this year if we didn't draw anything in WA.  Not now, that sucks!
“In common with”..... not so much!!
