I would put in for 87 in the special draw.

That's what I'm leaning towards right now. I will still call the bios and do due diligence before I land on it next year. But that's the fun part

Call Wyoming tomorrow and ask if you can buy points for your son until he is old enough to hunt. I think you may be able to...

Have you considered collecting 2-3 more points and then share them with your son for a GREAT hunt together?  :twocents:

Yeah, that was one of the options I brought up earlier. Didnt know if it was foolish to build up to 14 or 15 to use that many on a general tag so then both of us go, or if I spend them now, then build more points so both could go in say 4 years. Either way, he cant hunt there for at least 2-3 years. Taking my son is not the dilemma, hes going when hes of age. Was just thinking 2 birds could be killed here if I spend them next year, then build point for the next 3 years so both of us go on a general tag. The reason for starting these points was to build up to 14, 15, 16 points then try to draw an elite tag.  By the time I get that many, my son will be in prime hunting form and theres is no way I would live with myself if I drew and elite tag without him. So that's why my focus has changed a bit and am trying to figure out the best option.

NEVER assume that everything will remain static. The NR game is changing everywhere, every year. Get the tags you can get and worry about future hunting seasons later. Obviously to be effective at getting tags a guy has to be thinking 1-5 years out but the future is never a guarantee. Hunt next year and then worry about getting tags with your son. I'm in the same boat with my kids except I don't and won't ever have 12 points anywhere. Well except WA  :chuckle:

Just to clarify, you said you will have 12 points next year meaning you’re currently sitting on 11 and buying number 12 this summer correct?

The problem with WY is that the general hunts are still the best in the state from a quality standpoint.   The high point lowland hunts still only buy a slim chance at a quality buck.

If I had money on the line to take a deer north of 185”; I’d take G over a 128 type hunt all day long.

Unfortunately, even G and H are moving into a stretch where two years of lost fawn crops are  going to result in a significant void of prime age class bucks.

Gonna be slim pickings here for a couple of years.  Glad I used up my 8 pts this year and my brother’s 6 pts this year.

My friends down there say that there is big deer everywhere on the limited draw hunts. Scouting alot is key for weeks before the hunt. Guys that want to show up 2 days before the hunt have to do things different.

I drew 89 on their advice so I will be there to verify. They plan to scout (as they love the area) and hunt with me.  I will gladly let people know how it goes, as I will not draw it again. Took 10 pts in special and im sure it will be 20+ in 10 years... :dunno:
