A little FLINTLOCK fun today!
« on: June 27, 2020, 03:45:25 PM »
Testing my reworked ( Originally was 2fa Artillery powder ) 3fg powder today. 50 yards with my Traditions Hawken Woodsman .50cal. 70gr 3fg, .020 patches and .490 round ball.

Happy? You can't wipe the smile off my face!

4fg Gearhart Owen in the pan. Instant ignition.

Its been a long while since I last shot the flinter. Mostly because my powder supply is always down. Shouldn't be an issue for a while!

I just brought home a custom built GL Jones flintlock. My father-in-law had it custom built in 1990 and then gave it to my sister in law, who I aquired it from. I've been dabbling with modern muzzleloading the past few years, but only in-lines, nothing traditional.

I wanna learn to shoot this well enough to hunt with it. I'm excited to learn about these classics!

Wow.

I never would have guessed you could get a group like that with a flintlock.

I have hunted muzzleloader in at least one state every year for the past 40 years, but have never shot a flintlock.

Super impressive.

have an older T/C .54 Renegade flintlock. Have always used fff for main charge and ffff in pan. for deer using patch and ball which PA requires and 70grs. more recommended. we fire with a white sheet or over snow if available and change the charge until we have no or very little unburnt powder on the ground. we have kilt many deer over the years with no hang in the fire. Back then our seasons were in January and cold id good.

the hardest part of flintlock accuracy is getting used to the flash in front of your eye especially hang fires. avoid the hang fires by tuning your powder charge and it is very important to ALWAYS WEAR SHOOTING GLASSES.
