I have a 257 vanguard, it shoots about 1/2" at 100 yards and we've killed everything from squirrels to moose with it. But the 6.5 x 300 might actually be a better choice?

Very nice for sure.  My way of thinking, if a guy wants the 6.5-300 and intends to shoot the 156 Berger or other such heavier bullets, they should of made the barrel 7 twist.  I know a couple custom guys recommend that.  If you do much shooting with it, especially with 140+- grain bullets at the achievable velocities, it could possibly be a rapid barrel burner.

Maybe true but when I think of Weatherby I think of the 257 Roy. Is the accuracy in the 6.5-300 cartridge good? Seems like a prime candidate for a 156 Berger

Am glad you posted this. I am looking at the .300 Win mag and would like some opinions on what bullet weight to shoot with the 1/10 twist?
I don’t know much about bullet weight versus lanes and grove twist rate.

I'm with you but I already have a Vanguardin .257 weatherby mag. I'm tempted by that 6.5-300.

The 6.5x300 is definitely going to be a barrel burner with any bullet and that's the reason Roy didn't introduce it to the market when he invented it years ago. Today many shooters don't worry about that issue, it's the time for that caliber. Wtby may not even load a 156 bullet for it, most shooters will use lighter bullets, probably the reason they they didn't use a faster twist?
