How's the baitfish population in MA 9?

SH** ton.  From at least there all the way to the Pacific from what I hear.  Most of them are super small herring, like 2-3" from what we saw jumping and on the Sabiki rod.  The coho we picked up in 10 yesterday were stuffed with them.  I didn't see a bunch of bait in 10, but 9 was loaded.  We spent most of the time in 10 way out, so there may be more bait in close.

In 9 I had bait schools on the graph 50+' deep and a couple hundred yards long.  I could see them hitting my fishing line, but alas no chinook were with them.

I did PR on sand dab, I should have taken a picture.  We got 2 big ones and one small one trolling for chinook in 10, going for a fish fry tomorrow night with those two and resident coho.

I wonder if the tides were part of the problem?

i think the tides were great, concentrated bait where it needed to be, etc.
think back to the opener last year, red hot (my opinion at least)
but it was about 10 days after this years opener.  I think the fish are just stacked up further out..

We thought the same thing. We thought the transducer was messing up. Crazy amount of bait.
