Im not saying i would or wouldnt shoot at an animal at 400 yards, but a 290 barnes starting at 1850 would hold 1000+ fps at 400 yards. Thats still packing some serious punch. I dont know if that is a reasonably attainable velocity but its in the middle of barnes data.

If it was allowed i would certainly scope up my muzzy to see what i could get out of it at distance accuracy wise.

I know guys already shoot 150-200 yards with them, but my eyes suck and i limit myself to much shorter than that with the open sights.

In all i think a scope on a muzzy absolutely defeats the purpose of a stand alone muzzy season.  :twocents:

At 400 yards, that Barnes bullet will drop 96" assuming a 100 yard zero, that's 24 minutes (96 clicks) you would have to dial in the scope or holdover 8 feet?  It's only packing about 665 ft lbs.

I wouldn't support optics of any kind on a muzzleloader.  It's intended on being a shorter range, slower loading weapon and thus there is a different season than modern rifle.

Did anyone in here get through and buy a multi season deer tag before they sold out?

To say adding a scope to a muzzy wouldn’t effect anything is laughable ! I hunted UT the last year where you could use a scope with no magnification.  I had a custom vortex on muzzy with a dot reticle. I could easily shoot that gun to 300 or more accurately.

Expect them to sell out even faster if wdfw goes through with allowing scopes on muzzleloaders.
We can just call it early single shot rifle season.

Reload and maintain a single shot rifle. Then do the same with a muzzleloader. Not even close to the same.
A scope certainly adds substantial range to a muzzle loader. Reloading take a minute tops. A scoped muzzy could easily be a 400+ yard killer.

You're quick! I always wait a moment because the instruction manual for my hawken said something to the effect that there could be a hot ember still down there so don't immediately dump powder down the barrel after a shot. That scared me into waiting so the next powder charge doesn't blow out in my face! Sounds like its just a precaution

yep that was my calling time session and there were 6 other guys behind me that couldn’t get there calls to go through so we just handed my phone down the line at Fred Meyer and the lady at the game Dept helped them all and we all got our tags ! I only knew one other person but everyone was happy in the end

I bought mine online with no issues. Apparently it was a 1 day thing, you could get it on the WDFW website without surrendering your existing tag first. I’ll have to figure that out next week probably.
you can still get gas in heaven, and a drink in kingdom come,
in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

even if each took 10 min. to do it seems very odd that they were able to process that many in 1 day.  :dunno:

Funny most the people I see at the range I would never trust them to shoot 400+ with a modern rifle. Most don't do the work to be a 400 plus shooter. Now add a muzzleloader that drops a ton. Although even with open sites I see people trying 300 yard plus shots. Just ridiculous.

The scope at 1 power would make things more efficient though.
Maturity is when you have the power to destroy someone who did you wrong but instead you breathe, walk away, and let life take care of them.
