Brushbuster’s Oregon Antelope Hunt
«

After 20 years of applying, I drew the one out of state Antelope tag for one of Oregon’s best Antelope Units this year. After missing turkey season and trout fishing I was pumped and eager to get away and spend some time in the field.
The unit is huge and with an Aug 15th opener it would be the earliest and hottest Antelope hunt I’ve ever been on. The temps ranged in the mid-40s to over 90 degrees each day. From the map, it appeared there was abundant water in the area. This was deceptive because these shallow lakes called “Playas” were completely dry except for a few that had been excavated by ranchers or the BLM.

I hunted the public land for 6 days with only a handful of speed goats spotted. When I saw them they were warp speed running at 500 plus yards and would disappear into the Junipers in a few seconds. I was beginning to doubt my chance of success. Finally, on the sixth day I changed it up & decided to sit still near water. I got set up early at first light about 200 yards out from a pool I had earlier spotted goats.

After 2 hours. This guy presented about a 150-yard shot. Totally happy with a great adventure ending with success and meat in the freezer.
