Work is extremely dumb this time of year, seems every year I start having trouble paying attention to details at work cause all I can think about is deer and elk hunting! Gonna give it a shot this weekend and see how it goes, but those temps are going to make it rough! But I will say a bad day in the woods is WAY BETTER THEN A GOOD DAY AT WORK!!  :archery_smiley:

I got winded by the biggest buck I’ve Ever personally seen, :bash:6-8 points and wider than his ears. Saw him coming up the hill right at me but didn’t know he was walking in a depression, so I couldn’t see him as he approached. I thought he was still toward the bottom of the hill about 50+ yards away when all of a sudden I hear a crash 10 yards away as he catches my wind and takes off..... very disheartening, this is my 2nd year bow hunting and 3rd year hunting over all. Now that’s it’s been a few hours I’m trying to just trying to recap the events and see what I could have done differently and learn from that instead of being upset about it.It does make me feel good to know I’ve got a monster moving around my property, doubt I’ll see him again but hopefully I meet up with some of his dumber family memebers tonight.

Half the struggle is finding them for sure.  Definitely stick with it.  I'm not sure how much property you have that you are hunting but the ones that frequent my lil 3 acres are pretty consistent.  They've been run off by my dog, bumped be me doing yard work - even had one bedded within 15 yards while I did some archery practice! Season wasn't open yet.  They always return.  I would have a chance at a really nice 3x4 this year.  Just not comfortable that I can get him to drop before he hits one of the property lines - darn neighbors!

If you know hes there, why settle for one of his "dumber" (younger) others when you can hunt him the entire season ?  If possible, learn prevailing wind/currents etc. and pick stands accordingly.

Here’s mine. Buddy got his in the AM I got this guy yesterday evening. My buddy let me use an iron will broadhead, pretty impressive. Quartering to, hit the first rib, exit the abdomen and went through the rear quarter muscle then lodged into a tree

Because then I can eat steaks and spend time hunting other stuff. September goose opens Saturday, early elk coming up, small game, still looking for a bear, shall I go on? Lol
Just more interested in getting some meat in the freezer antlers are just a bonus but don’t really mean anything to me other than the direct coronation between the size of the rack and how much meat is attached to it. More the merrier. Good luck everyone! Thanks for the encouraging words.

Somebody shot a deer in mazama, my old man found it bloated out behind his place this afternoon. 3 pt buck. For some strange reason his camera had all the pictures deleted from it. All on private property. Bummer.

Oh no. I'll have to check my cams when I get up there. Hope they weren't raided as well. And that sucks in general and why didn't they try to retrieve at least? Probably thought they'd be caught I suppose. Five bucks says they're still up there looking for another deer to shoot. Was it certainly an arrow kill? Whitetail?

Whitetail, said it definitely looked like it had been stuck with an arrow. It was only like thirty yards from the trail camera, I can't see how it would be two separate incidents? His land abuts the national forest so while access is limited it very well could have been shot legally and I'm pretty positive my dad has never turned anyone asking for access away if they're any sort of respectable, definitely wouldn't turn someone trying to recover a deer away. Just a bummer all around.

Congrats to your son MH.  I would love to get a buck in velvet someday.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.
