Wanted to get my buck quick this year as I have a bull tag to prep for, couldn't make it happen on the opener, but found this guy this morning at about 1000 yards, pulled a stalk on him, and after sitting there trying to find him as he was bedded in the grass for 5 or 10 minutes, (they sure are hard to spot when they don't wanna be seen haha) he finally got nervous enough to stand up and start running. Stopped at 300 yards broadside and I let him have a taste of the 257 weatherby. He took off on a dead sprint up the hill, shot again at 350 on the run at a steep quartering away, he turned around and head back towards me down the hill, at this point my buddy was yelling at me to stop turning him into swiss cheese over the radio, said he was pretty well done, he ran back almost to where he was bedded and keeled over, first shot was as perfect as it gets, put a clean hole through the heart and clipped liver, second shot was far back coming up through the paunch and up into the vitals. Still amazing how far they can run sometimes without a heart. Bout two miles back through CRP. Made for a long drag.
