Anyone know how long they typically stay closed for fire danger? Weather looks better next week with some precipitation in forecast down south. Do you think they open once it gets wet or will they prolong it as long as they fill despite improving weather?

I only read the announcement as a Partial Closure of some of the permit areas.

Once fuels get bone dry and brittle like they are in most places, it take more than a sprinkle to get their moisture content back up to reopen. We really need a good soaker.

Thank you for the replies. I guess to be more specific, looking at our weather forecast, and historic closures by Weyerhauser will they reopen the recreation areas east of I5 before archery elk season is over? I’m just trying to figure out what to do with my elk season. My original plan was to hunt wa 12-24 then head to Idaho 25-30th. I’m now thinking Idaho first. I just don’t want to get to Idaho only to find out wa reopens as soon as I arrive and have to make it back to Washington. Lots of gas burnt and time. I was trying to figure out if I should wait it out until Monday thinking Weyerhauser May reopen by then, but it sounds doubtful based on replies.

I'd guess that most timber companies won't open their lands at all this archery season- not enough rain in the forecast. This will put more pressure on the units with state/federal lands around the cascades and the late archery season.

Based on the weather forecast IMO it doesn't look like there will be enough rain for timber companies to justify opening up. Forecasts change daily and often don't match reality so lets just hope it rains a lot next Mon/Tues/Wed.

The forecast I'm looking at next week has shower's but they are thunderstorms with lightning possible. Not looking good.

Sure glad I dropped $325 to hunt the St Helens early archery season instead of going to Idaho, that was my original plan until this China virus showed up. Oh well, its only money.

During this period of high fire danger we are asking all permit holders to exercise extreme caution when entering the permit area.  Early archery season starts tomorrow so please make sure you follow the safe practice rules and have the required fire tools listed below.

 

    During fire season, motorized permit holders must carry a pointed shovel, an axe or Pulaski and a properly functioning U.L.-approved fire extinguisher 5-pound ABC minimum rating.
    Permittee must call 911 if any fires are observed.
    No fireworks are permitted on the Permit Area at any time.
    Please refrain from smoking, even if you are inside the cab of a motor vehicle.
    In Washington, fire season is April 15th to October 15th per state law but may be extended in extreme fire conditions.  https://fortress.wa.gov/dnr/protection/ifpl/
    Campfires are PROHIBITED during fire season, this includes wood and propane fires.
    Do not park, pull over, or drive on roads with tall vegetation.
    No target and skeet shooting or exploding targets are allowed.
