Chains on all 4  and if you start sliding aim for the ditch and bank it instead of going over the edge. :yike:  Get in shape.  :dunno:  Those roads get pretty gnarly after a hard freeze or 2 and coming down in the dark is to say the least is an adventure. Have seen a few trucks piled up on the bad side of  OK. gulch  :bash:      Did i say get in shape.
 :bdid: :yeah:
Yeah... adventure. There’s some roads out there that if it snows you leave the door open as you’re driving down.. if the truck goes you bail out of the door. Seriously. One of the best tags in the state to have for sure. Can’t wait to see the results

It’s amazing the bucks that will hang out just out of site from the road! Seen some monsters bedded down a few hundred yards down Ridgelines that tons of people just drive on by :twocents:

Great hunt, wife drew 5 years ago......
Pray for early snow to push bucks down,  but there are plenty of big local bucks in that unit, thats for sure.
Steliko is an area to keep an eye on, wife missed a masher up there  :bash:
Devils Backbone I. Eleven is one of the areas you can watch the migrating deer move through.  Steep on top, with clearing, but bushy down low, and the deer hold up in the thick stuff, a masher 3x3 with a 33" spread was taken right off the lower road the year we hunted.
Hunt the last part of the season. The closer to the end of the permit,  the better the rutt takes hold.
if it was me, and some day I hope it is, I would spend the last week of the season  hunting.

My advice: If u got more then 2 days to hunt that tag please!!! Hold for at least a 150"+.  Also if u can hit a group 9f 5" at 70 yards ur good.  Also  Try for the heart I know this is hard to believe but I've had mule deer in swakane go 500+ yd with a double lung shot. Good luck!

I will also be up there for the archery hunt.  Gonna head back over in a few weeks and see what I see.  Did some scouting/learning in August.

Just tagging along to see what you come up with.     Good Luck!

Gonehuntin01 my tag is for Modern. When is the archery season up there? Thought it already passed Sept 25th.

late archery season starts right after the late rifle season ends.

I have the hunter ed incentive tag so I get to hunt the rifle season with a rifle and then the archery season with a bow.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

I saw the note about the Hooks and Horns TV episode, so watched it last night.  Think it's a pretty good example of what to expect.  Drive and glass, drive and glass.  Focus on the snow line and just above.  Will need to look over a lot of bucks to find a good one.  Don't be surprised if you lose multiple days to fog or other weather, etc.  It can get really frustrating, and then all the sudden a big buck steps out and it's all good!  It's a great experience, no question.  Enjoy it!

It was a really lucky draw for sure.  It is a second deer tag as well so I can shoot a buck in my normal hunting area and shoot one with this permit.  I am a lucky son of a gun for sure.
