Even if you are downhill, you'd better hope those brakes are rock solid, otherwise you'll be in the ditch. If its just one quarter, you're almost better with it on your back and riding the bike with it on you...The reality is, its never flat where elk live. Pushing the bike is one of the only ways to maintain control. Whether its 1 quarter or 3, you're probably going to want to push your bike to avoid ditching it or expending so much energy that you're sacked. If I were to do it again, I'd strap two quarters to the bike at a time, push it out and ride it back. That would be the right amount of energy to not burn yourself out, and keep speed to the process.
