Im no muscle doctor, but I'm guessing a deer missing a backstrap most likely couldn't walk let alone without a limp. Pretty entertaining video though!

I don't think the backstrap is missing.  Looks like some of it tore free, but it's still intact.  Looks like he got chopped open by a combine to me.   :dunno:

I agree. The meat looks dark from exposure, but I don't see the side of the spine like I'd expect if the loin was filleted off.

Look at the buck's mouth and notice his work of breathing.  It looks real to me and looks like he is struggling.

After looking closer, you're right, its not missing although it looks like its mostly separated from the top of the spine.

Yup - viral and most are saying combine got it, seems most likely.

I've gotten fawns before, farm machinery can do terrible things.

Upon further reflection the combine idea makes the most sense to me. It's like the conditions were perfect in that the deer didn't get too severely bitten (as in, an immediate mortal wound). Looks like when he got chopped there must have been enough space and he was probably getting on his feet when he got sliced but he got just far enough away to only lose his hide and a bit of muscle. It looks like a pretty clean cut. Back strap does appear intact.
