Daughter did it again!

Words literally can’t explain how proud I am of this kid! 9 years old and passed hunters safety this past spring. She was lucky enough to draw a doe tag and filled that opening weekend. Fast forward to this weekend opening day of modern elk. Hiked in and spotted 2 spikes right off the bat, clearly spooked looking back the direction they were coming from, about 300 yds. As we were waiting them out the took off running straight at us. We moved up a little to get a good shot, stopped them at about 100yds but she was too shaken for a shot and told me she didn’t want to shoot. They ran over the ridge and out of sight. She was pretty upset and we explained to her that most hunters never even see a spike and we just saw 2, that’s pretty cool on your first elk hunt! We continued on to see if we could locate them again. We never saw them come out of the steep draw. We eased over to the edge and I spotted them bedded below me in a rock slide about 50yds! The one got up and started trotting off, the other stayed out. Got her setup on the tripod and she drilled him! 2 times and he tumbled down the rock slide! She was so excited, she started crying again... just like she did on her deer. Was a pretty awesome moment. The 6mm creedmoor and 105gr Berger’s did work on him! Coolest part of this is she shot it not even 1/2 mile from where I shot my first elk just one draw over.

I love seeing kids that are successful. That doesn't necessarily mean harvesting an animal. Time with dad means alot these days! Congrats to both of you.
