Halloween Bull....
« on: November 04, 2020, 07:30:37 AM »
I shot this guy on Oct 31st at 8:00am in an any elk unit that typically does not hold a lot of elk. I have hunted this unit late archery deer for 20 years and have only seen a few elk but the sign has always been there. I picked up a bear tag last week because this place is crawling with them so I figured I may stumble on one. Well I got to my parking spot and there was a guy parked there and he jumped out and ran up the road so I followed to see which direction he was headed and I would go another way . He started up the hill I had intended on hunting so I put my nose in the wind and headed the other way. Worked out for me as I walked up on a pretty large herd but only 1 cow was out in the open for me to see and she was feeding toward me at 80 yards I was waiting for her to turn and out walked the 5x5 bull at 150 broadside so I shot him. After finding him I sent a text to a couple of buddies and said bull down. (Hunter Dug) from the forum said he was just leaving work after graveyard shift and will headed home to grab his  boots and head my way. He met up with my another buddy and they made the 2 hour drive to the unit and with help from ON-X they walked right to me. I had all the boned out meat ready to go when they arrived. 3 heavy packs and we made our way out to the truck. Been an archery hunter for 25 years and have killed quite a few cows but this is my first Bull...

It took me a little over 2 hours to get him all finished solo. He was in a really good spot to work on which helped. Had a nice shady spot where  my tarp was for boning the quarters and keeping everything clean and hair free.. I was just finishing with removing all the extra junk from the skull when help arrived.
