Ice on small ponds
« on: December 17, 2020, 02:58:48 PM »
Has anyone used a solar aeration system or other device to keep open water on a small pond?  I hunt a couple half acre spots that are 4 feet deep or less and looking for an economical, effective solution.

Thanks

If you are near enough to a line voltage source oh, you can just rig up a small water pump and shoot the water across the top. Something like a septic pump. It will keep an opening but not the entire pond

We let them freeze then cut out an open spot with a chainsaw if it's too thick to break and slide the cut out sheet under the ice.  You'd be suprised how many ducks will try to land in an open water spot 10'x10'

I've only seen the ice eater things, I would guess it would take quite a bit of movement unless you are just barely below freezing.  If it's 0 out, a small solar fountain is going to turn into an icicle.
