Mr.Heater Big Buddy Oil in lines issue.

Have had this heater for about 10yrs? Ran it the last few seasons in wall tent. It would die for unknown reasons then relite and be good for awhile.  The end of our hunt this year it got way worse. So lastnight decided to investigate issue with heater. Spend 1.5-2hrs taking apart and reassemble.  Well found the regulator, pilot orfice, interconnected tubing full of machine oil??? Blew it all out and works great now. Just FYI if yours is having issues?

A spider took mine out. Bought a new one for the deer season the. Later tore the old one apart. Spider had clogged the gas line.
Those things are. It easy to get back together, lol

I was surprised to see so much oil come out.  Before I started my bet was failed regulator. I'd rather found a spider than all the oil.

I think I’ve read before that that’s a known issue with them. Something along those lines is. I had to do the same thing to mine a couple years ago. Been good ever since.

I am sure you all know that if you hook those to a 5 lb propane bottle you have to use a filter they make for them or you will have that exact issue.

I only run mine on the small bottle.

You can also take off the grill and run air through the line from pilot to tank connection.take off the tanks and hold down the knob while pumping air. Solves a lot of issues.

It’s the stuff that seeps out of the line when using a bulk tank. Using a filter will avoid the problem.

Thanks for the heads up about adding a filter. I'd always been under the impression most all propane tanks are clean ? This might explain an older two burner stove I had failed and never knew why and just chocked it up to old age.  Just picked up two new Buddy heaters and don't want to have the same issue.

Think Santa got me a Big Buddy & connector hose.  Guess I better have him/her throw a filter in the stocking.  Does one of the connectors need to be capped if using a large propane tank?

On a mission this week to find filters and see what else may be needed? Not sure about the capping off?  All this engineering with the holidays is stressful! May need to stock tent with ice...........

It’s not the tank, it’s the hose. Most hoses contain plasticisers in the rubber to keep them pliable. The high pressure of the propane in the hose pulls hose plasticisers out of the rubber. I use the hose from mr heater thst doesn’t contain plasticisers and don’t have a problem.
