I’ll be putting in for a gen tag, drew last year so odds are not in my favor.

can you draw a general tag for elk with zero points? Or one point for applying I guess I don’t know how that works exactly for Wyomi. The general tag I was looking at says we have 0% chance of drawing with less than two points, I take it each unit is different even with the general elk tag?

You can in the random draw. 25% of the Non Res tags go into a random draw that is not effected by points. The odds you are seeing is regarding the preference point drawing. So there's always a chance!

I will be in. Shooting for the moon to maybe pull a really good tag on the random draw since I'm planning on going to MT for general elk.

It'll be my luck I draw both and somehow pull a WA quality tag too....
if that's your luck you should just buy lotto tickets

Can you buy points now?

If I recall you buy points end of July through end of October. I’ll be applying here soon. Looks like the unit I’m looking at had odds drop way down so I’m not overly optimistic this year.

I mean there would be worse things to have to deal with.

That's like a $1200 entry fee isn't it? :yike:

no, you’re probably looking at the special tag, which is more money.

Ah I see.  Thanks for the clarification.  I have (1) point so I don't see much success happening for me here  :chuckle:

I've got four points and want to hunt a general elk unit but now I'm planning out my fall and not sure I've got the time off to do it with everything else I want to do. Gotta decide soon.

Remember that you can amend your application up until 10 days before the draw. That adds a little flexibility

About 1 in 7 chance last year at a first choice regular random draw if I’m reading things right

I'll be waiting most likely, with less than 2 points as a group I didn't think we could draw a gen elk tag.
In 2020 the success rate in the random draw was 13.75%, definitely worth applying.
As long as we have the habitat, we can argue forever about who gets to kill what and when.  No habitat = no game.

And to thank you, they keep your “credit card convenience” money even if you aren’t successful. So nice of them
