With the density of martin your in, I'd be looking into a double sided box with a center bait cage see if you can swing a double or 2

Anyone had marten cannibalize each other?  I had a good size marten eaten today. Weather has been warm so can’t rule out cat’s and no snow for tracks.I have pretty high concentrations of marten in the area I trap them but this is a first for me.

I’ve had it happen before and by weasels a cat would take the whole thing for the most part

It took everything not in the box! I almost didn’t know it was there but opened the box to check the trap/bait. Weasel and birds usually leave them more skeletonized in my experience but last year was the first time I set for marten.  As good as marten are at cleaning up a carcass I figure it was eaten by a marten.  I think that without good snow cover they are having a harder time than usual staying warm and getting the voles they would normally be eating.

This is also not too far away from the north cascade fisher release area to completely discount the possibility of being eaten by a fisher (I have seen fisher in the area even before the release).
