Camo gun stock sticky question

Have an hk auto shotgun that the synthetic stock and fore stock that are camo (I’m guessing dipped) is really sticky, like tacky with glue. I’ve tried cleaning it with everything but acetone with no luck. Anyone ever run across something like this? I’m about to strip it with acetone and find a place to re dip it.

Was it factory or a homemade job? Sounds like they tried to use a urathene spray to protect it and it didn't get cured properly.

Made by Fabarms?   I have the same gun.    Ya, sticky, the person I got it from said it is that way to keep your hands from slipping on the stock.   Huh?

The more we used the gun this year the stickiness is coming off and some of the finish.   I actually think it is a factory paint that just is what they hoped for.

Assuming factory, gun was bought used. Just haven’t used it enough to wear it off I guess. 😂

Put a little powder on it and see if that works. Talc.

So I was thinking today, why not spray some clear coat on it and see how that holds up    I’ll see what happens after hunting this weekend.

Browning and Winchester also had the same issues.  Like that dura coating they use.  It becomes very tacky when it starts to semingly break down.  You may have to strip it down at some point and have it dipped or ceracoted.

Properly prepped for and applied DuraCoat doesn’t become sticky.

You are exactly right, I have a full camo browning BPS10 and the dura coat camo finish has turned to goo on the stock and fore grip. I tried talc powder but did not work just made my gun worse. I was told I need to strip it off and have it dipped. I keep waiting for brownells to slash the price on a new factory stock but $400 is spendy in my mind.

Guys, there was a class action settlement on the Duratouch Winchester and Brownings. Look it up, call them up, and they will replace your stock for free. Been there and done that.

No problem. Just an FYI ... They may not have the same camo or color you originally had. The new stocks just feel like a normal hydrodip. It won't have the rubbery feeling like when it was new.

After reading this thread again and reading the links posted, I see there's a difference between that lawsuit and what some people in the thread are saying.  The lawsuit is over a product called Dura-Touch which is not DuraCoat.
