Heavier bullets and more energy at range than the 6.5 PRC, but you have to wait for rifles, dies, brass, load data, etc. assuming it catches on.  I assume the recoil will be more.  Probably helps with elk, seems like 6.5 PRC is plenty capable for deer at longer ranges.

I'm considering a 6.5 PRC in the next year, we'll see where this goes.

Eh, a quick run through the calc shows the 165 ablr load almost exactly on par with the 147 eld m at 1000 for energy and almost an moa more on drop. Similar performing bullets so all I'm seeing is more recoil on the 165 for diminishing down range performance? I guess a little more energy on the short to mid range perhaps. I am happy to see the .270 market moving past the 10 twist standard though, its about dang time.

Somebody is going to have to come out with some new high BC bullets in .277 if this cartridge is going to compete with the cartridges that are already established in the current market.  I wouldn't be surprised if this one flops.

That’s what I was thinking. And factory barrels will need twist rates to match to take advantage of the sleek bullets.  I considered building a 270WSM fast twist to shoot the new Berger but there just wasn’t enough there to make it an advantage over a fast 7 or 30.

Yeah, we're really splitting hairs with some of these calibers.

I could see elk hunters much preferring 175ish over 147 on elk at similar energy, I know I would.  I guess the question is if you are a big bullet elk guy, would you pick this?  Not a bunch of bullet points in that argument other than short action.

The recoil alone is going to keep it out of the long range target shooting, so who knows how popular it will become.

Nope!  The 300 PRC is pretty much the future there it appears - can even shoot steel out to a mile and elk to xxxx.

Are you talking about the 6mm ARC? Or did Hornady announce an additional cartridge in that family? 

I am also interested in the 6mm ARC. Pretty impressive numbers on paper.
