Anti-Hunters | Who We're Up Against
« on: January 31, 2021, 08:07:15 PM »
Just thought I'd share this "public opinion" in response to Commissioner Kim Thorburn's statement on how hunting in Washington is under attack and her views on how conservation should not be driven by ideology. This is written by just one of many anti-hunting, pro predator extremist groups that frequently overwhelm the WDFW with their emotion based testimony at commission meetings. Let's do our part and have our voices heard at these meetings. As Thorburn states, hunting in Washington is indeed under attack, as it in nearly everywhere in the west.

We need more like Kim Thorburn. Unfortunately, the two new appointments, Koontz and Smith, are not good news for Washington.

Her public opinion was hogwash. But I'm sure she feels the same about mine. Science based management is about as useful these days as opinions. WDFW seems to be so expert at manipulating the science they've managed to run afoul of everyone. Sad times indeed.

Interesting articles thanks for posting them. Well this animal and earth advocates group is another group I haven't heard of. But I am sure they were more than willing to jump on the boat when they saw a chance to make a profit from lawsuits like others have.

I feel like your opinion should carry more weight if you are actually buying hunting licenses every year.  Management of the resource should be more focused on the wishes of those that are paying to manage the resource.
Pain is temporary, achieving the goal is worth it.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it.

Exactly but I don't see a move in that direction. I have been listening to the latest Commission meetings and a high amount of those with public comment are from people who state their affiliations with these groups and stating thousands of members. Now how much does the commission take the public comment into consideration? They constantly bring up that 4% (and only 20% say they are participants) of the states population purchase licenses and how that is such a little portion of the WA population. While we as hunters and fishermen believe our voices should be most heard they don't want to give us that.

Not picking on you specifically... how many of you belong to groups that actively represent sportsmen?  I know of several that do, but they don't have some one at every commission meeting. I don't know of any that couldn't use the help, even SCI...
