Skull Hacker
« on: March 10, 2021, 08:00:53 PM »
In my on-going search to find the best bull skull capper, I’ve got one of these on the way. Oh yeah, I’ve dabbled in them all. The best top knot remover has got to be effective (sharp, good on bone with goo mixed in as well as serve a secondary role to saw up small chunks of wood for the Lite Outdoors tipi stove) and as light as possible (particularly as I get a bit longer in the tooth). The best I’ve found so far is the old standard, Wyoming Saw but it’s a bit heavy. Yep, I’ve tried a handful of the folding saws (insert brand here) but my buddy and I have broke them all on hard elk skulls. I’ll let you know how the Dandy Saw works out this fall on elk/deer. More to follow......

When weight is an issue I'm really leaning towards lopping bulls into sheds and using the rack hub to rebuild them...its a very clean look and would save loads of energy & time

Dandy saws work great btw...just heavy

Interesting KT 💡. Got the Dandy Saw 12” model in the mail today. 11 ounces; very solid build. I think I’ve found my new skull caller saw.

Although I think the Dandy is at the top in their category, I don't think they're much different than a comparable folding model with a bone saw blade. If weight is an issue than an extra 15 minutes with a Havalon saw blade steals the show in my opinion. The single blade weights less than 1 oz. Start on an edge and run perpendicular. Doesn't efficiently fit the bill as a tent stove saw blade though. :twocents:
