2021 Huckleberry Spring Bear Thread

We glassed up 1 bear this weekend over there.  Also found a den with a pissed off cub in it but did not see mom anywhere.  Not sure if she was out and about or still asleep in the den.

No spring bear tag, but was over for the Turkey opener.  Normally we see several bears but this trip we saw 0.  We hunted in the 3000 - 3600' range.  It was very dry and the green up in a lot of areas hadn't really started.

I drew the tag and I was up there this past weekend and did not see a single bear. I was at about 4000 to 4800’ in elevation glassing clear cuts and creek bottoms. Planning to head up there the next couple of weekends.

Was over there as well,  not yet seeing bear sign.   Should be soon!

They are starting to move.....every week we see more and more on trail cameras.  Saw one in person Saturday.  Grass down low is greening up.  It is about to get good boys and girls.....go whack some bears!!.  Make sure to post success pics!!

  agreed, low elevation bear are moving around, high elevation bear are still moving very little. Everyone is trying to hunt way too early, you guys should still be notching turkey tags! Give it a week or two!

Following your advice.   One more turkey weekend then up into the canyons to glass.   Anyone know if you can access the area near Kentry Ridge?  Haven't been up there in years and I know they closed some gates.   Lots of varied land ownership there.

I know Alot of areas I hang out in.
They have been spraying all the new clearcuts .
So might wanna glass some of the clearcuts that might be a few year old.
I have a feeling that them bears can smell that spraying that there doing.

Things are looking green. Didn’t see anything my first trip over. This trip saw three bears. One in brush too thick to really see well, a small one, and the one I shot last night. Old dry sow out eating in a cut at 5:30.

Congrats!  Any time of day better?  Seems like bear can be out at any time,  deer and elk not so much.

Thanks.  Definitely anytime of day. I’ve seen and shot the least first thing in the morning but I have shot one at first light so.... The general thought is there much more active at night so after being up feeding often times early in the morning they are laying down already. But after that they can get up and start feeding or just wandering around really any time of the day.

Congrats on the bear, we head out at 3AM tomorrow for a long weekend.  Saw one bear opening weekend and found a den, this will be the second trip over for us.
