Arrow heads for rabbits
« on: September 14, 2021, 11:28:52 AM »
I found a nice rabbit hunting spot close to where I live on public land. The only problem is that there are houses and popular hiking trail in the area - not a place I feel comfortable using a gun. However I think there’s enough space to safely shoot a bow. I have been trying to decide wether to use judo points or if I should use a field point with an adder head attached, or can I simply use a field point? What do you guys think?

I like the G5 small game head, it'll punch through a little bit of brush but still stop so you can recover it.

Not a field point.  I've used the small game heads for grouse and they work.

Yea definitely not a field point.

I would use blunts and go for headshots.

Good practice that way.

Little old school and most guys haven't heard of them but I use a fair amount of adder's on my field points. Works great.

How badly do they effect the flight of a field tip?
Can you use the adder head on foam targets for practice or will they shred the targets?

I've had good luck with these on grouse and rabbit, and as said easier to recover too. Blunts don't fly well for me.

What’s the difference between the flight of a field tip and the flight of a small game broadhead?
Will they shred up targets bad?

I have the G5’s, VPA SGTs are awesome too. No change between those field tips and broadheads. I’ve used adders too, they tear up targets and will bend when you pull them out. Better to shoot those at some 2” blue foam taped together. Cheap and disposable. Don’t use broadheads, they go for a mile on the bounce and a bunny isn’t worth a broadhead these days haha.
May my presence go unnoticed, may my shot be true, may the blood trail be short.

Amen

I’ve never noticed much but really haven’t shot them past about 20 yards grouse are usually close lol. I would not shoot them into a good target. Like said blue foam you can pitch. Just need to validate point of impact and then go thump some bunnies.
