Guaranteed if any of you guys shot a buck that was 1 inch shy of the world record you would be calling the 1 " eye guard a POINT.. Looks like a 12 point to me   for the "hillbillies" on here or a 6x6 for those that count antlers the way Boone & Crockett does.  Kicker..sticker..Junk...trash..eye guard...It's still a POINT..........

When Boone and Crockett scores a mule deer, eye guards over 1" are scored as points.  I have a 4x5 with eye guards, which was scored by B&C as a 5x6.

I would call it a 4x5 with eye guards, however if you are reporting on WDFW website I would call it a 5x6 as technically the eye guards count. If you shoot a 2x3 where the 3rd point is an eye guard you would most definitely report it as such, otherwise you would be typing in you had shot a 2x2...
so legally its a 5x6, to me its an awesome high hunt trophy! Congrats.

Thanks for the responses!  My gut instinct is to call it a 4x5 with eye guards, which seems in line with the majority opinion on the matter.  Very interesting to know that B&C would call it a 5x6 though.

Here's the buck on the ground.  He was an old fella, but a healthy one.  Despite having a fairly big body overall and plenty of fat, it was neat to see how much bigger and stronger his 2x2 buddy looked standing next to him.

I had a 4x3   2 year old mulie. Last year he had a spike x two.  His 3 year old half brother is only a 2 point..and has had 2 point antlers two years in a row...Of course the 4x3 was killed opening archery by a neighbor...they get a third point around here and they are dead.

4x5 with eyeguards.  I like to know what's up top when talking antlers.  My buddy would call that a 6x6.  I always ask if that is up top or if that is including eyeguards.

Only count one side.  A 4x4 is just a 4 point.  If uneven, it's a 4x5, 4x6, etc.
Mule deer = don't count eye guards as points
Blacktail = don't count eyeguards
Whitetail = count eyeguards over 1"
Elk = count eyeguards, unless you're from Pe Ell
Exactly

I might be mistaken.  Seems like back in the day, BT and Mule Deer bucks were "named" by the side that had the most points.  If it had eyeguards, then that was an additional qualifier.  In the case of your buck, if you called it a five point with eyeguards, I'd know that it had at least five points on one side, and eyeguards, which gives a bit more prestige then calling it a 5 by four with eyeguards.  Calling it an eleven point just tells me that your hunt Whitetail.

Nice buck man!

Another vote for 4  by 5 we have never counted eyegaurds on mule deer. But definitely count them on whitetail.

old buck? Did you send in teeth? I would peg that deer a 3 year old all day long. Just curious, he does not look like a mature buck. Not bashing your harvest. Every buck you harvest on the high hunt is a trophy in my book!
