Book cliffs north Utah deer
« on: October 06, 2021, 09:16:04 PM »
So I know I shouldn’t expect much feed back but I was called today and offered the book cliffs LE deer tag oct 23-31 I would only have 3 days to hunt it but also don’t want to pass up a good opportunity. With that said I should have came nowhere close to getting this tag so if anyone has some info or past experience with this unit and can shed some light I am all ears. If I accept it I am just going for a fun time with my dad and hoping to get a 140+ 4pt is that a realistic idea never setting foot in the unit with only two weeks to web map it? Thanks for any tips! Happy hunting!

How many such opportunities are you likely to get?

Sounds like an AWESOME adventure.

Why only 3 days? Can't squeeze out a few more? You got covid on oct 22nd remember and have to quarantine for 10 days :chuckle:

I hunted the Book Cliffs about 6 years ago. We ran into the most deer up high near the entrance to the roadless area. That was also where we ran into the most hunters. The lower elevations had very few deer when we were there. Pay attention to where watering holes are those became very active areas in the evenings. Enjoy, it's a fun hunt if you don't have super high expectations for monster bucks.

At least a good road trip, isn't this tag one of the top tags to get in Utah??  Anyway, I hope you make the best of this tag, good luck.

If you are only going to hunt for 3 days, have your dad hold the bullets for the first day. Have an awesome trip!

My Book Cliffs hunt was one of very few that I could hunt from truck, use game cart to wheel buck back to vehicle.
those ridgeline roads, spot deer/bucks, park rig, hunt-stalk thru sage, above treed ravines were money.

hope to draw again oneday, before I'm too old to hunt anymore.

Now I’m getting pretty excited to go with only two weeks to plan It should be way better than what I’ve seen in this state.

Thank you all for the input was a fun hunt special thanks to brushbuster! We had fun we were there a little too early but it was what we could manage and we saw a ton of deer and great country ended up with what they call a nice management 3pt on our last day. We saw some better bucks even missed one of those but overall for the time we had it was a success and many nice bucks seen. Wish our state could get into the game of getting close to managing our deer like Utah to even a proportion.
