Lost Muzzleloader

I found a muzzleloader in the Colockum this week lying in the road.  I ran into some other hunters later in the day who ran into the guy looking for his muzzleloader, so we were looking and asking around for the rest of the week, but no luck.  So if you lost your gun and can tell me the make model and caliber of the gun as well as where you lost it, ill get it back to you.

Sounds like you should have left it for the guy to come back to find it, as evident by the people saying the owner was going back to look for it but couldn’t find it because you picked it up.. This reminds me of people who take county dogs off the road because they think they are lost. Stop stealing peoples dogs.

Deadyote, good for you for doing the right thing. 
 

You had no idea if the owner had covered 100 miles of dirt road that day. 

If you leave it in the road, it is likely to get run over or found by a dishonest person. 

If you place it on the side of the road the owner would have a heck of a time finding it somewhere along the miles they had traveled. 

It didn't wander up there on its own like a dog, and it wasn't gonna wander home without some help.

If it was mine, I'd have been grateful to you.

Glad it was found.  Unfortunate that you couldn't catch up with him during the hunt as more than likely his hunt was over without a gun unless he had a backup.

Good on you! Thanks for being an honest person. I'd sure appreciate it if my gun was in the road and someone picked it up to try and find me.

I found a flyrod in the road once. Picked it up and dropped it off at the local flyshop. Went back the next weekend and had a nice $$$ gift certificate waiting for me by the owner of the lost rod. Had I not picked it up, it surely would have been ran over or otherwise.

I figure the same thing when I'm on patrol and see a woman or kid walking alone at night after I pass a broken down car.  If I stop and give her a ride, I might prevent her from being found by someone she knows.  Of course, there's also the chance she might be picked up by someone who will make sure she's never seen again, then the missing person paperwork is such a pain along with family notifications and all that... 

Thanks for picking up the gun, dog, or helping the person.  Each of us knows what we are going to do. None of us knows what the next person will do. 
Never apologize for doing what's right.  It won't always be the easy or convenient thing to do, but it will always be the right thing to do.
