Clockum rifle cow tag

So my wife drew a clockum rifle cow tag and didn't realize it didn't start for 3 days after general opening for elk, don't know that area very well and if having to wait 3 days will make it hard to find her a cow. She has never shot an elk and I would love to see her get one, so if there's any one out there that would be willing to give her some direction that would be greatly appreciated.

Should be a very easy tag to fill.  My advise would be to get off the road 1/2 mile and sit and watch a couple draws.  The elk are getting pushed pretty hard and you will see elk.  Wife had the tag a couple years ago and we hiked down the ridge to the east of Brushy creek.  Filled the tag in one day. 

Good luck and make sure you update us with her success.  A first elk is always special.   :tup:

I would agree with this statement, pretty much any of the deep draws will hold elk, just be patient.

Plenty to be had, saw a few hundred during muzzy, but you have to be willing to hike. In past years some of the bigger heard bulls are still buggeling during that hunt. Find those and you’ll be set.

@bear nature how did this turn out.  I saw a herd of 130 elk on Friday.  Sunday they had split up and were in two groups.  Hoping your wife was able to find one.

I think anyone that is applying for a cow tag would be best off applying in a unit they are familiar with.  The cow season is short and the learning curve in a new unit is steep.
