Try the upper right corner. 

It will search the specific board you are on or back out  to the top to search all boards.

You might find google works best.

For example searching on here for tritip info in your google browser type-

Took me awhile to figure out it was only searching the board I had open. I thought it was searching all boards regardless whether i had one moard open or was on the home page.

Not complaining, I use the search feature now and then and its kind of fun to see the results from threads that were started before i was a member and what was being discussed/debated. 

Sometimes its kind of damning for some members as predictions posted years ago did not come true

When I use the search function on my phone I usually only get one page of results. When I use it on a computer I get the whole search function. Stuff from 10 years ago. Maybe you are having that issue? I'm not sure what causes that but maybe try from the computer?

I actually prefer the layout of this forum and find others clunky, familiarity I guess but it just feels right for me.

With iphone I prefer the non-cell browser - just like computer.

FYI - For several years SMF has been working on a new version of software with many of the changes that I have seen members asking for from time to time. I have been told the new version is now in Beta mode and being tested, the anticipated roll out seems to keep getting delayed, but eventually it will be available and it will address many of the features members have been asking for.

I have considered doing modifications for some features but our tech guy Liroy says many of the features I wanted will be standard with the new SMF and that we should wait for it to become available.

I am told this is one of the features being addressed with the new SMF.

I tried several modifications to the current SMF software and most caused issues or weren't that user friendly.
